where。 TOOLS to LIVEBY, Taipei ||

tools-to-liveby01

I used to break the piggy bank at home just to get the money and buy those cute new erasers in school and share with the whole class, it didn't end up pretty with my mom shouting screaming. But it did prove how much I am in love with stationaries. So when this shop, "TOOLS to LIVEBY"'s photo pop-up on my Facebook feed, I promised to myself I must go there next time I head back to Taiwan.

So I did, not far from the LiuZhangLi Metro Station, on Leli Rd, there is a shop that is so low key, even without any sign. But you just know that is THE SHOP. Concrete floor, concrete ceiling, with warm yellow light and wooden tables. Very nostalgia but still pretty industrial style.

tools_to_liveby03 tools_to_liveby04

The things they sell make my eyes spark once I step into the shop. So many little surprises laying on the table, and it would definitely take quit a while to go through and play those treasures in your hand. From colorful pans and pencils to stamp/ink/post cards/pencil case/tapes/memos/sharpers....so many more!! The differences between this adorable shop to normal stationary store, is that this place is full with little celebrities in the world of stationary. They are from well-known European/ Japanese suppliers like MIDORI, Marks-Ordonne-Mechanical, MARKS, REDECKER...etc. The retro design and the useful purpose makes me want to tell the shopkeeper to pack EVERYTHING on this table for me.

See what I have bought under a really control. A tote bag ( I heard this shop is run by a group of illustrators, no wonder the VI looks so GOOD! )/A stamp from MARKS/ A purple blue ink/ A Marks-Ordonne-Mechanical auto pencil/ Green pencil shaper/ A colour pencil from KOH-I-NOOR. Those Lovely Goods can be found on their Online shop. And their Instagam is also very impressive and worth to check out!

IMG_5160

Every year when I come back to Taiwan for Chinese New Year, The temperature differences are always an issue for packing. From North to South of Taiwan, the differences can up to 10 degrees. This year, the highest of 28 in South of Taiwan, makes me confused, wondering if the summer come early this year. With the blue sky, lovely sunshine and serious good food, I think I was in heaven for this CNY.

Running with kids without make up, chatting with them innocently under the sun, seeing the world with their angle; the whole world seems a lot different with kindness and curiosity. Just lower your body down a bit, put your eager away to feel things around you, the whole experience can be so pure and wonderful. Under the sun, the sky and the puffy cloud, I think I am ready to embrace the challenges with child like innocence and curiosity in the year of Horse. (nothing to special or ambitious, my first one would be...Keep FIT. )

there。

Shanghai has been packed with lots of exhibition and fun last year (well, that really has something to do with making a good friends with right people haha) Was planed to see Yayoi Kusama's 'A Dream I Dream' on Dec, but end up rain checked it to this Jan. (Take you time, no rush, it ends on March, 2014) Because of the experience with Dior so me and my friends decided to went early morning on this one, so luckily we can finish the whole tour within an hour without lots of queuing. It was like entering a big big collation of dots, some are adorable, some are mysterious, and most of them are spectacular indeed. Dots are like Strips are very classic patterns, but with Yayoi Kusama's extraordinary imaginations and creations, it makes the exhibition a really hit now in Shanghai.

Already title it with "Spotty Dotty Shanghai', of course after Yayoi Kusama's exhibition and a nice pizza for lunch (another round object!) we headed to another hit spot here in Shanghai, 10 CORSO COMO,  located in Jingan District. This Italian concept store has the theme of 'round' all over the building, from the wall, the glass decor, floor, the table, chair and sofa, everything. We start our tour with wondering the first 3 floors which are full of beautiful selected designer pieces, and at 4th floor, there is always a mini exhibit you can look around. Then finally go back to the first floor, where you can find a little cafe.  Enjoying the tea which comes with iron tea pot,  while sitting there, feel the magnificent experiences you can got between those imported eastern and western cultures, all in the city of Shanghai.

When I was studying art, we have been taught to appreciate everyday life and observe the beauty within it. Both artists, Kaarina Kaikkonen and Sivan Askayo found the beauty within the wire and the clothes. (Apparently, in Shanghai,  drying the clothes is kinda a massive street art! haha) The art between ordinary life/object and the space has create something so delicate and organized. Now till 8th of October, you have the chance to see Kaarina Kaikkonen's work  at Chi K11 in Shanghai andand WOOO it when you see the massive installation.

Wherever you are, going to a cafe, drinking coffee and gossiping in the weekend is the must-do in all the cities. I've post some cafe in shanghai, but most of them are in retro styles. This one, pull me back into this concrete jungle, but strangely I feel quite safe and relaxed here. Seesaw coffee is in Jingan design center and located in the lobby. With the smell of coffee and the lights from the huge windows on the roof, it feels like working in heaven here. My 2nd visit, I was with my laptop working on editing images and posts, I sat for 4 hours, concentrate! That's how a cafe does the magic with the smell and the unique noises that makes you focused! (also how coffitivity works) The coffee here, drunk by the coffee lovers, says they are made with professions and passions. I was a bit disappointed that they don't really sell tea here, but while had a sip of my friends drink, without any sugar and milk, I fall in love with Kanya immediately. (I don't drink coffee, but this one makes me feel good) If you are also a coffee lover, this place also have the coffee seminar occasionally. Please put this cafe into your must-go in Shanghai, believe me, you won't regret it.

I am now a super fan of  Antonio Marras, not only because of his playful vintage like styles, but also the enjoyable collages which has these unforgettable nostalgia feelings in his 2014 resort collections. Cute cats and Big red roses, perfect items to represent woman in different age, he mix them like a impressionism painting. The Roses remind me two images from Caroline Alkire and Emma CookThe collection, however is pretty young and a little bit girly, pretty refreshing with stripes and water colours. I can totally imaging myself wearing his collection on my holiday to a small village in Europe! Great inspiration for my coming holiday wardrobe.

BON VOYAGE !!
